Spreading her cloak of red and golden leaves
she comes, heralding fecundity
the bounty of the good earth
ready for harvest
Her cloak billows out and the trees understand
mimicking her colours in the long winding down
as Nature relaxes, settles
preparing for bed
Bring in the gifts
of God to His people
fruits and grains and vegetables
store up the good things
in time for the cold night
Autumnus moves on
touching the land and the water
leaf and plant and vine
drawing forth the last blessing of the year
Put on your gloves and scarves
feast on the earth’s blessings
warm soup, crusty bread
apples and pumpkin pie
settle in for winter’s sleep.
