Sweep up the pieces

Make sure you get them all

Use a good, solid glue

Now comes the tricky bit

Piece by piece

Bleeding sliver by aching shard

Begin your reconstruction

Assemble again the form of you

Defy fear and disregard despair

Doggedly work on your renaissance

Don’t think about how you’ve been here before

There are a couple of holes left when you’re done

But a bit of sealant will set that right

A lick of paint and no one will know

There were any cracks at all

Except you

And who’s to say

When you’re more fissure than substance

Is there any returning from that?
