There were fields once
Green and free
There were sheep, and horses
All gone now
Ripped up and subdivided
Sold off in job lots
To well-heeled developers
To flog their newest vision for urban living
Homogeneous housing
Little boxes all in a row
Cell-block chic in tasteful grey
A homily of conformity
And a litany of debt
Tiny houses all squeezed in
No garden, no air, no light
A fast food of basic needs
A life of mortgage to a happy bank
I like this. So sad and true
