It’s what they say, isn’t it?
That history must be remembered
So it won’t be repeated
But that hardly works in life
Warfare and butchery are nothing new
And certainly not forgotten
But still it happens again and again
Preying of rich upon poor
Injustice in courts of law
Inscribed in texts from ancient times
And still it goes on
Man’s inhumanity to man
explained away as part
Of a grand and mighty plan
And what’s a little damage along the way
When the ends justify the means
Civilizations rise and fall
And new ones replace them
So, in spite of all the books in the world
History will always repeat
A broken record hiccupping through eternity.
