Lying in bed in the pitch-black night

The small child strains her eyes to see

Strains her ears to hear every sound

Ghosties and ghoulies and things that go bump

Swallow you down, body and soul

Take you away to the world of the dead

Many years later, all grown up

Lying in bed in the pitch-black night

The woman strains her eyes to see

Strains her ears to hear every sound

Robbers and rapists and serial killers

Take what is yours, take your life

Torture and murder and everything bad

Put you in ground, swallowing dirt

Monsters are real, monsters exist

Little girl dreaming of monsters each night

Tentacles, fangs, darkness and magic

Adult dreaming of monsters each night

But they look like us, like you and me

And so, they are harder to see.

Happy Hallowe’en!!
