At the turning of the year

We who have travelled so far from the sun

Turn towards his face again

In the deep midwinter

We light the lamps, feast and are merry

We tell tales and sing songs

To drive away the cold and dark

It is solstice, the pause of the sun

Waiting with hope through the longest night

And then rebirth, renewal

Turn and return

Light and life come back

To the land and the people
