Road winds up to a castle door
Towers and turrets and ramparts galore
A dragon sits on a nearby hill
Hatching its plots to attack and kill
On a path through the forest and up to that place
A young girl walks with an innocent face
If you please, says the girl to the ravenous beast
I’ve come to invite you to our winter feast
Why? asked the dragon, I’m here to attack
To burn and to lead you to ruin and wrack
It’s been a hard winter, said the sweet child
We know that you’re hungry, we know that you’re wild
Please, sir Dragon, we offer no hate
Put aside your schemes, come down to the gate
We’ve food in abundance, so eat your fill
The dragon agreed, and came down from the hill
The castle and dragon reached an accord
They’d give to the dragon what they could afford
The dragon would guard them from all of their foes
And so live together in peace and repose.
