I never come to visit

Not often enough

How hard it was to be old

How no one cared, no one would help

How much help you had

But it wasn’t enough for you

You were lost in suffering

Lost in pain of body and spirit

It would try to comfort you

 But you wouldn’t (couldn’t?) listen

It’s a year since you left us

A year since you went home

To where there’s no more pain

No more anger, no more regret

A year you’ve been at peace

I’m sorry I couldn’t help you

But it seems like only yesterday

when you didn’t want to be helped
