Across the multiverse, they say

There are infinite possibilities

So many decisions that might have led

Down different paths

What would I say to parallel me

Would I be full of ‘if only’

If only I’d tried harder, worked harder

If only I hadn’t run away

If only I was brave

Then I could have what you have

My heart’s desire in my grasp

If only I were you

Or what might I say to parallel me

Observing the outcome

Of disasters narrowly averted

Decisions that led me, all unknowing

Away from danger, violence, death

I’m glad I didn’t go that way

Follow that road

Turn that corner

I’m glad I dodged that bullet

If there were such a thing

As the multiverse

It’s just as well we don’t know

Seeing every possible consequence

Of decisions already hard enough to make

That way lies destruction
